CJ.com: java script links & PPC

08/06/2006 by JohnC Leave a Comment

As all us affiliates should now be well aware that cj.com are changing over to java script links. I won’t cover the detail – it’s well covered in numerous sources like this one. However, presumably due to the amount of unfavourable feedback they’ve been receiving, cj appear to be softening the blow a little – I received an email this morning that says that the grace period is to be extended in to 2007.

The issue is if keyword bidding (PPC) is greatly affected by this change. This is what cj actually say about search engine marketing:

If you are a publisher doing search marketing, to obtain Keyword links and take advantage of the improvements made to the Keyword Link area in the CJ Account Manager (Get Links >> View Links >> Keyword Link), you will need to designate your promotional method as doing search engine marketing (SEM).If you participate in more than one promotional method, you can update your account settings to reflect this.
For your existing search campaigns, your links will continue to work until the Legacy links are phased out. We will provide you with at least six months notice prior to this date letting you know of the final date for switching out your links.

Well, time will tell. In the meantime one simple thing to do is to switch networks wherever you can. For instance, we promote the Marbles credit card at cardtart via cj.com – but the same programme is also available on buy.at, so we’ll simply sign-up and switch. Now we can’t switch every merchant, but then again we may not need to.
